Baby, you’re a breadwinner!

More women than ever out-earn their partners

Move over sugar daddies, sugar mamas are on the rise! A demographic shift in the number of women versus men with university degrees means that 20-something women earn on average eight percent more than their male counterparts. In big cities it can be even higher – a New York City survey revealed that single women in their 20s are earning on average 17% more than men. Meanwhile, a 2010 British study found that nearly 20% of women between the ages of 16 and 60 earn more than their husbands or boyfriends and another 25% earn the same. If these trends continue – and statistics indicate they will – it won’t be long before the breadwinning mantle is officially passed!

Until then, we can take inspiration from a few celebrity role models: 10 famous sugar mamas who scored great careers and great husbands.

In the 1980s, that number increased to 19%. The last time Stats Canada measured, in 2009, 31% of wives in dual-income marriages earned more than their hubbies. In the US, the figure is even higher, where almost 40% of working wives out-earn their husbands. read more »

A penny-less Canada: How getting rid of the penny makes cents for you

Money Media

In March, the federal government released their much-anticipated budget. Alongside the budget cuts we’ve all grown to know (but admittedly, not love) was an interesting, yet perplexing, announcement: Canada is getting rid of the penny. Excuse me? Although for a while it seemed everyone had an opinion about it (putting new meaning to the term ‘a penny for your thoughts?’), most of us just felt, well, confused. To ease your mind, we’re offering our ‘two cents’ (and plenty of puns), providing you with everything you need to know about a penny-less Canada and frankly, how it can benefit us all. read more »
